Kravis Center, designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects (vinoly-kravis) and AHBE Landscape Architects (ahbe-kravis), is a five-level academic and administration facility that was awarded LEED Gold Certification for energy, lighting, water and material use. Fountain Source worked with the design team to develop an ultra-shallow flush-deck reflecting pool that floats the glass enclosed "Living Room" structure. Reflecting pool design gives added thermal insulation to the classroom space located directly beneath the fountain basin. The basin's overall depth is 10 inches from finished grade and is made shallow by use of a removable false-deck paving system that is set to give a water depth of 1/4 inch, which gives surface water a compelling stillness, while respecting ADA requirements.
